About Dr. Lewis

Bringing advanced anesthesia care home to every practice.

Caring for patients and the veterinary community — one thoughtfully planned case at a time.

For Kerrie Lewis, DVM, DACVAA, anesthesia is about more than the medicine.

It’s the moments in between…

…the thoughtful analysis and planning. …the watchful attention. …and the support of pets and their people.

And, at each step, an opportunity to make each procedure safer, smoother, and more comfortable for everyone involved.

Education & Experience

A specialist’s path.

Born into a veterinary family, Dr. Lewis is a graduate of Niagara University and The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine, she completed a rotating specialty internship and returned to Ohio State for a master’s degree in pain physiology.

After completing her residency, Dr. Lewis became board-certified in veterinary anesthesia as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA).

An Opportunity to Serve

16 years across the field.

Dr. Lewis has built an accomplished career, including 10 years of teaching and clinical positions at universities around the world — Massey University in New Zealand, the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, The Ohio State University, and the University of Florida. She is also an accomplished speaker and anesthesia text book contributor.

Recurring Challenges

Three patterns kept surfacing.

Across private and corporate practices, in both clinical and leadership roles, the same challenges came up again and again.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty about complex cases and how to plan for them safely.

Stress & Intimidation

Stress or intimidation surrounding critical anesthesia decisions.

Losing the Big Picture

An emphasis on individual details without always seeing the whole patient.
In these moments of uncertainty, Dr. Lewis saw the potential for care that reaches further, dives deeper, and supports not only patients but the entire veterinary team.

A Virtual Reality

Why KL Anesthesia exists.

Much like the delicate balance of anesthesia, offering virtual consultation and education services to specialty, urgent, and general practices allows her to extend her expertise — helping countless pets and colleagues, while also making time for family.

Philosophy & Approach

Every case, tailored to three criteria.

At KL Anesthesia, every case is an opportunity to provide veterinary patients with greater safety, health, and comfort. Drawing on extensive training, experience, and exposure to diverse cases and practice settings, each protocol is thoughtfully tailored.

Safety

Anticipating risks and preventing complications at every stage of anesthesia, including prep and recovery.

Comfort

Aiming to minimize stress, promote calming, and manage pain throughout the patient’s experience.

Confidence

A plan built for what you actually have on hand — so you can follow it with confidence, within your comfort zone.
Partnering With KL Anesthesia

Anesthesia can be fragile, and so can trust.

That’s why collaborating with me is more than a transaction — it’s a true partnership. Even after you receive your protocol, ongoing support is always available, including real-time troubleshooting as cases unfold.
